Dharana is concentration and contemplation. It literally means “immovable concentration of the mind” The principle idea is to hold the concentration of focus of attention on one direction. The concentration should not be forced. It is one- pointed focus that brings the mind inward. Immersed contemplation and inner reflection will create the right inner environment, so that the focus on a single object becomes more intensified. You can concentrate on repeating a mantra (word with spiritual meaning) or you can try gazing at a candle flame to help focus the mind.
“By concentrating on a form, sound or light, we learn to constantly be in that state of inner aloneness and to be joyful in any situation.”
